For a collaboration with Futbol Mas, I traveled to Kibera and Mathare. These are two of the largest slums in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. In the rapidly growing city, more than 50% of the population lives in the slums. Kibera and Mathare are areas heavily polluted by (human) waste and are known for their unsafe reputation. The aftermath of the national elections has increased tensions in the neighborhoods and has caused political violence

During my stay, I took pictures for Futbol Mas. This NGO's core task is to increase the resilience of the children in the slums by giving social lessons in combination with football training. By following the students of Futbol Mas, I had the opportunity to move more freely in these neighborhoods. It resulted in a project in which I documented the lives of the students and their surroundings.
