For a collaboration with Futbol Mas, I traveled to Kibera and Mathare, two of the largest slums in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. In this rapidly growing city, more than 50% of the population lives in slums. Kibera and Mathare are areas heavily polluted by (human) waste and are known for their unsafe reputation. The aftermath of the national elections has heightened tensions in these neighborhoods and led to political violence.

During my stay, I took photos for Futbol Mas. This NGO's core mission is to increase the resilience of children in the slums by providing social lessons combined with football training. By following the students of Futbol Mas, I had the opportunity to move more freely within these neighborhoods, which resulted in a project where I documented the lives of the students and their surroundings.
